4th international nanoFIS 2020 conference – 100% Digital at highest scientific level!

The international conference “Functional Integrated nano Systems - nanoFIS 2020” jointly organized by Materials Center Leoben Forschung GmbH (MCL) und Techkonnex – High Tech Promotion, was held for the 4th time from 2nd to 4th November 2020! Initially planned as live event at the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz, this years’ nanoFIS 2020 was organized as fully Digital Event!

This was an entirely new situation both for the participants as well as for the organizers! Nevertheless, 90 participants from 18 countries joined the nanoFIS2020! The huge time shift of 16 hours between the most remote participants (Taiwan and California) was the biggest challenge for organizing the high quality conference programme!

Highly renowned researchers joined the nanoFIS conference as Keynote Speakers: Max Shulaker, Professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mark Brongersma, Professor at Stanford University, and Ulrike Diebold, Professor at Vienna University of Technology, presented their outstanding R&D results. In addition, eight invited speakers demonstrated their striking progress in the field of nanotechnology, which will push the future development of Smart Systems.

Enabled by nanotechnology, multifunctional Smart Systems will smell, see, hear, communicate to each other, and take own, intelligent decisions. Such Smart Systems will be the backbone of the Internet-of-Things and will make our life more comfortable, safer, cheaper and healthier. Smart Systems will care for an optimum climate and environment indoors and will perform intelligent light management by switching of the illuminations in rooms in the absence of residents.

All these developments are of great impact for the European Micro- and Nanoelectronics industry - with 250.000 direct employees being one of the most important industrial branches and innovation driver for the entire European economy. Europe is still having the worldwide lead in the development of multifunctional microchips and Smart Systems. However, competitors do not rest, and it is a must for Europe to further increase its efforts for staying in the lead. Nanotechnology will tremendously trigger these developments.

We thank all speakers, poster presenters, participants, exhibitors, sponsors, supporters as well as our team for making this event a great success!

Sincerely,
your nanoFIS 2020 Organising Committee
