Second conference nanoFIS 2016 - a great success again!

The International Conference on "nanoFIS 2016 - Functional Integrated nano Systems" was held for the second time 27th to 29th June 2016 in Graz, Austria.

A total of 130 scientists, researchers, engineers, technologists, and advanced students from 28 nations from all over the world joined the nanoFIS 2016 and made the conference a great success. Recent advances in Micro- and Nanoelectronics in particular in the topics "Advanced Functional Materials", "Nanosensors", "3D-System Integration & Packaging", "Reliability" and "Smart Manufacturing Processes" were presented in 48 talks. About 46 posters presented by young and active researchers significantly contributed to the high scientific level of the conference. This was appreciated by the Materials Center Leoben GmbH by sponsoring and awarding 3 poster prices.

The participation of EVGroup, Raith Nanofabrication, Anton Paar GmbH, SVCS Process Innovation, Keysight Technologies, ams AG, Microtrac and Finetech GmbH in the company exhibition demonstrated the industrial relevance of the nanoFIS conference.

Excellent Key Note and Invited Speakers such as Jong Min Kim from University of Cambridge, (UK), Liwei Lin from the University of California at Berkley (US), Bernd Römer from Infineon Technology AG (Germany), or Kengo Shimanoe from Kyushu University (Japan) presented a broad range of latest R&D results, future industrial applications and visionary ideas in the relevant topics >> see summary

Livio Baldi from Micron Semiconductor Italia moderated the highly interesting panel discussion "More-then-Moore Devices – Golden Opportunity for European Micro- and Nanoelectronics?". The panelists Simona Rucareanu from ECSEL Joint Undertaking, Peter Kerschl from the Austrian Research Promotion Agency, Liwei Lin, Martin Schrems, Director R&D at ams AG and Bernd Römer agreed that this is in fact a unique opportunity for Europe. However, the common understanding was that this will require a very active European Industrial Policy for being competitive with Asia and US and to make More-then-Moore Devices a success story for Europe.

We thank all participants for making this conference such a big success!

First conference nanoFIS 2014 – a raving success!

The International Conference on "nanoFIS 2014 - Functional Integrated nano Systems" was held for the very first time in Graz, Austria.

nanoFIS 2014 was jointly organized by the MCL - Materials Center Leoben Forschung GmbH, one of the leading research companies in Austria, working in the field of materials engineering and technology, and Techkonnex - High-Tech Promotion, a company organizing high-tech events, conferences and Workshops.

nanoFIS 2014 has addressed important topics of Micro- and Nanoelectronics industry.

A total of 145 scientists, researchers, engineers, technologists, and advanced students – 40% of them female! - from 26 nations from all over the world joined the first nanoFIS 2014 and made the conference a raving success. Recent advances in Micro- and Nanoelectronics in particular in the topics "Advanced Functional Materials", "Nanosensors", "3D-System Integration & Packaging", "Reliability" and "Innovative Manufacturing Processes" were presented in 48 talks and 45 poster contributions.

The organizers were able to attract world famous scientists in the field of nanoelectronics: Zhong Lin Wang from Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, US, Jong Min Kim from University of Oxford in UK, Lars Samuelson from Lund University in Sweden an many more.

Status and future of the European Micro- and Nanoelectronics industry were addressed in the very interesting panel discussion "Airbus of Chips – Feasible European Reality or Science Fiction?"
